James' Check-Up and Sophia's Water

Today James had his 1 week checkup. He did great and passed with flying colors. He is back to his birth weight and everything looks great. We don't have to come back for 3 weeks.

In other news, Sophia was out in the yard today helping Daddy water the plants when she picked up the water hose and started to water the plants herself! She then bent over and started to drink from the hose. I don't know where she learned this but we took lots of pictures. Once I download them I will post it.

Jim started a new corporation today with three of his colleagues - FEP (Fishers Emergency Physicians). This new corporation will function at the free standing St. Vincent's ER. It'll be nice to have Jim working closer to home.

Now it is time to share news on me. Well, I don't really have anything new except I wore real clothing today (as opposed to pajamas). It felt good. I also drove James to his doctor's appointment while Jim stayed home with Sophia and that felt Great! I also was able to wear both my wedding band and my engagement ring today for the first time. The wedding band was Jim's gift to me for having Baby James. It is gorgeous and looks great with my engagement ring. Maybe one day I will get another wedding band to go on the other side of my engagement ring :)

Baby James

Here is Baby James - 1 Week Old! He is very sweet and loves to cuddle. He is eating very well and starting to put on weight. Tomorrow we have our first peds appointment. I can't wait to see how much he has grown in a week! His clothes are still falling off of him (as I would expect at this point). The other morning he had both legs in the same leg hole of his pajamas!

Sophia and James together. Sophia gives James a kiss every morning and every night. It is very sweet. Today she started pointing to his nose. I think she likes that it is so little. She also seems to like it when James opens his eyes and looks at her. She smiles really big when he does that.
He had a hold of his paci VERY tightly here. If you can tell, his fingers are turning white because he is holding on so tightly.

Sophia's 15 Month Doctor's Appointment

Today Sophia had her 15 months check up. She weighs 27 pounds 11 ounces and is 33 inches long, both of which are in the 100% for her age. She was the model patient. She sat so still and was very well behaved. It probably helps that when she is sick at home Jim gets out his stethoscope and otoscope to check her out so she is kind of used to it. She got a free frosty coupon from the doctor when we were all done. Sophia also got 4 shots. She didn't start to cry until the 3rd shot, and even at that it was more like a whimper. The 4th shot had her crying for about 10 seconds. She did great! One cute thing was that while we were waiting to go back to the room, there were some little boys who came out from seeing the doctor. Their moms were schedule appointments and paying bills, etc. The little boys were flirting with Sophia and she was smiling and waving back. It was really cute. This one adorable little blondie didn't want to leave. He kept smiling and waving at her. I think when she gets older I am going to have trouble on my hands!

Sophia's forehead is looking much better but is still obviously a large mark. It was the first thing Suzanne asked when she saw her today - "What happened to her head?".

James bed was delivered today and looks good! (They had ordered the wrong one originally). I just have to put everything back now and vacuum. Jim and Sophia are sleeping though so I think I will wait on the vacuuming.

New Park Discovery

We discovered a great new park. Well, it really isn't new but it is new to us. It is at the end of 1o6th street by the river. There is a great big open area that would be great for picnics, kite flying, frisbees, etc. There is also a nice walking trail that loops around. It was so nice! Sophia walked over half of the walking trail. She got tired at the end though and did a face plant on the sidewalk. She got a scrape from her eyebrow all the way up to her hairline and has one of those marks where a bunch of red dots show up in a big circle. It will definitely bruise. She handled it well though. What she didn't handle was that after that I said that we were going to hold her milk for her. She didn't really like that.

Today Sophia is 15 months old!!! As soon as I get more pictures taken I will post them.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!

Happy Mother's Day to all Moms and Moms-to-Be! It was a great day for this mother. Jim woke up with Sophia and I, which was fantastic. Normally I let him sleep in when he works. He then made us all breakfast and I didn't have to help one bit. I didn't even have to do the dishes! Jim made us Eggs Benedict, hash browns, and homemade pancakes. Yummy!!! Sophia and I then cuddled on the couch together for a while and then we played some. A big surprise came when Jim came downstairs caring lots of bags and boxes -- Presents! Jim got me a great card and new Ipod Nano with a docking station for it. I was wanting one so I can play music in the kitchen for Sophia and I to dance to and so we can have music to listen to at supper time. Sophia got me a cute card and a pink cover for my Ipod and Jim's mom got me an Itunes gift card. I also had a bouquet of beautiful red striped roses. I have never seen roses like this before and they are so pretty! I love roses!!!



Afterward gift giving time, Jim let me take a shower and get ready in peace. That was a real treat! For lunch, we went to Paradise Cafe (I LOVE the chocolate chip cookies there!) When we got back it was time for Family Nap Time (I'll explain later). When I woke up, Jim had gone to work and Sophia was just waking up from her nap. Her and I played more together, had kind of a small, crappy supper, played some more and then got ready for bed. She is now sound asleep and I am trying to figure out my mother's day gift. What a great Mother's Day!!



Okay, now about Family Nap Time. Since I get tired every afternoon, I have started to take naps when Sophia goes down for hers. I feel much more energized after a good 90 minute (or longer) nap. I told Jim that Sophia and I nap in the afternoon and he decided he wanted to jump on board. So now, we all nap at the same time each afternoon. It works out great. We all feel much better afterwards. Of course we all don't nap the same lengths but that is perfectly okay. I am sure that when Baby James arrives he is not going to want to participate in this family event but eventually he will.

Doctor Visit Update

We had another doctor's visit on Thursday. It got a little exciting. They did a check for amniotic fluid and 1 out of the 4 tests came back positive! They went to look at the fluid under the microscope but said that if it really is amniotic fluid that they would put me in the hospital and we would have the baby. Ahhhh! I don't know why but I was freaked out! I thought "I'm not ready!" - although I don't think I can really do anything about that now. I think that it was just that I am expecting James to come sometime next week or the week after.

Anyway, it was all a false alarm because it was not amniotic fluid but they did do another ultrasound (I LOVE ultrasounds!) James looked good and healthy. Everything was fine. He is not breeched anymore and we got a really good look at his face. I think he will resemble Sophia. We could see lots of hair on the ultrasound, which was very cool. I bet it will be brown like Sophia's was when she was born. I am trying to grasp the idea of being a family of 4 but am having a hard time doing it. I guess it is because I don't know anyone who had a 14 month old and a newborn at home to base any ideas off of. Oh well. It is getting easier to imagine though, except bath time by myself. I am not so sure how that will go but it is all trial and error until a routine is established.

Sophia today was lifting up my shirt to look at my belly. She was patting it and blowing kissing on it, laughing up a storm the whole time. It was very cute. I don't think she realized that there is a baby in Mommy's belly...I think she just thinks Mommy has a really big belly. I love that she is not judgemental. Ahh, youth.

Sunday Sunday

What a beautiful day Sunday was here in Indiana! We enjoyed the day by going to look at some houses, which Sophia loves doing. She just runs all around them, getting into everything. I really think she enjoys it more the Jim and I do. We didn't find any houses that we really wanted to live in but we got some ideas.












Then, after family nap time, Sophia and Jim went outside to wash off the patio furniture so we could eat outside. That was a special treat.














After supper we we played with sidewalk chalk. I don't know who had more fun, Jim or Sophia. Sophia kept trying to eat the chalk and then put it on like lipstick. She definately needed a bath afterwards.
















Mom had her knee surgery today to repair some torn cartilage. Everything went fine and she is recovering at home with Nurse Carol and Nurse Faith. Carol said as long as she keeps up with the pain medicine schedule, everything is fine. I spoke with Mom on the phone and she sounded like she was in a happy place. Hopefully in a couple days she will be up and moving around like normal again.





No baby yet. 23 days to go!! He is hiccuping right at the very moment. I can't wait to see what he is going to look like. I keep imagining a male Sophia.

Dumbest Thing I Have Ever Witnessed

Here is something that I witnessed a few weeks ago that was the scariest and dumbest thing ever! Sophia and I were filling up the truck with gas. Not too exciting, right? Well next to me pulled up a Chevy Suburban. A woman and a man hopped out and started pumping gas together. I became irritated when, while standing outside the car at the pump, the woman pulled out her cell phone and made a phone call (explosion hazard #1). She then jumped back in the truck and continued talking while the man pumped the gas. Now comes the really scary part. I started to get the feeling that something over there wasn't right - I heard something different. I walked around my truck and realized that they still have their Suburban RUNNING (explosion hazard #2)! They never turned the vehicle off and now they are filling it up with gasoline! I wanted to run over there and say "Hey, Stupid. You still have your car on!!!". Instead I was too scared for my life. I stopped pumping my gas immediately and drove Sophia out of there. I passed a police officer on my way out and I almost stopped him so he could tell the idiots to turn off their vehicle but by then I was too set on getting Sophia and James out of there. Crazy people!

Mini Marathon

CONGRATS to Lisa, Beck, John, and Jim for running and finishing the Mini-Marathon. It is something I cannot even fathom doing so I always find it amazing. Everyone got a new personal best so it was a wonderful day!
